Valerie Baker has been living the horse lifestyle since she was 9 years old. Her excellent foundation for safety and respect comes from her early years with the Angeles Crest Chapter of the United States Pony Club. Using that as a launching point, she moved on to “A” circuit competition and instructed English riding lessons for the Los Angeles Children’s Riding Club during the late 1980’s. Valerie has been a member of, and competitive champion for, Equestrian Trails Incorporated, Tri-Valley Hunter/Jumpers Association, the California State Horseman’s Association, and the California Arabian Circuit.
Valerie has extensive training in competitive showing for Halter, Dressage, Hunt Seat, and Jumping. For the past 10 years, Valerie’s equestrian career has focused primarily on Dressage while she was in training at the renowned stable: Holmberg-Wadeborn in Los Angeles, plus taking clinics with Hilda Gurney and the late Dr. Reiner Klimke. She has worked with horses from birth to champions and well into their twilight years with devotion and respect for the magnificent creatures and individuals they are.
Valerie has been teaching for CSAL since shortly after she and her family moved to the Placerville area in January 2006. She resides on her own small ranch just a few blocks from CSAL with her husband of 10 years, her 6 y.o. son, 3 beautiful grey Arabian mares, a Paint pony, three Nubian goats, and five cats.
